MMP Update #2

I've done quite a bit of film shooting and video editing since the last update and currently have the footage for all the videos I intend to make, though I'm still doing editing on the one video that has about five different multi-trial experiments that need splicing together for coherency and flow. You can see the website I'm putting this all on at http://weibelphysics.shutterfly.com/ in the 'project' tab in the upper right. I think I'm set on the videos and narrative theme, so my question for you guys is... where do I go from here? I kind of feel like after I put up the third video this will just be... done. My project is after all, about giving a narrative guide for students to be able to follow and once I get the third video up, I think I already have that. Is there some significant step I need to take to bridge where I'm at with what is expected of me for this project? Or is the rest of everything simply touching up?

  1. Hi Chad!
When looking at your website I thought it was great that you used a site that not many of the students in our class are using. Shutterfly seems like a simple and great website to utilize and I think it would actually be better/more appealing than the wix that I created (its a little too late for me to be making changes now). Although I am not very knowledgable on Physics and the material you are covering I really liked the way you displayed this on your website for the students to utilize. I also enjoyed the different interaction tools you have on the website. This will be great for students to interact with their peers and gain insight on what to do with their investigations. One thing I really liked about this website was how people are able to make suggestions of what to put to the test for the students hypothesis. Overall, I think you have a great project going and I enjoy the simplicity of the website that you used in order to display it to your students. From my perspective I think just simple touching up would be the best for finalizing your project. Nothing really stuck out to me as needing to be fixed/changed. Great job!

  2. I think touching up is totally fine. It's definitely not a bad thing that you're almost done!

In terms of touching up, I just have a few comments. First, the images you use on your home page are all protected and overlayed with a watermark. It might be better to use open source images and avoid the watermark (you can search google by license type, or find some other sources for free images here: https://www.tes.com/lessons/eoGllwsbXFhkgA/copyright-friendly-images). I also think the site could use a bit more organization. The content looks great, and I love the idea of the "think tank," but I had a hard time finding the videos outside of the "recent activity" stream. A little restructuring could make the navigation clearer for users.

Otherwise, you're looking good! Congrats on being so close to the end =)

  3. I really like the layout of the think tank, as well as the checks and balances you have in place for the testing experiments. It looks like you have a good deal of checks and balances in place. You have done a great deal of video recording...is there a way to stage and take your own photos as well? I suppose it depends on the resources you have to create the images you need for this subject, but just a suggestion. It looks like you are doing well and have made some great progress!

    Thanks for sharing!

  4. Admittedly guys, the only part of this website I'm really applying to this course is the one page labeled 'project'. The rest of that site was my project for another course last semester. The taking my own pictures is actually a really good idea though that I'll strongly consider, though mostly the lots of video was taken with the help of a friend of mine who owns a good camera so I'd need to borrow him again to do so.
